40 per cent of all Offshore Wind Power turbines in the UK are relying on Norphonic Heavy Duty VoIP telephones to deliver essential communications and critical service continuity.
This announcement follows the news that Siemens Wind Power A/S has installed a record 1000 Offshore Wind Turbines in the UK. The 1000th Siemens turbine was recently installed at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm of the coast of Essex, featuring the very latest Norphonic industrial VoIP communications technology.
Norphonic Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones are installed in all of Siemens’ offshore wind farms, and are used by site engineers to communicate with central control rooms, home based support staff or remote managers. The robust Norphonic telephones are ideal for this market, due to unique VoIP features and the ability to perform in areas exposed to high levels of dust, humidity and extreme temperatures.
Helge Rognstad, Sales and Marketing Director at Norphonic comments ”We are proud of the fact that our robust VoIP telephones provides such an critical part of communications within these large offshore wind turbines, and we are currently explaining the unique benefits with using our robust telephones to other turbine manufacturers in other parts of the world”.
To further strengthen Norphonic’s leading position in the wind power market, SMart Wind (a consortium led by Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures) recently announced that it has been awarded the 4GW contract for the "Hornsea" zone of the Round 3 wind farm programme. These wind turbines will also rely on Norhonic’s market leading Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones to provide business critical communications between the offshore locations and the mainland.
Tonny Boesenbaek, Technical Manager at Siemens Wind Power commented: “The Norphonic Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones integrate easily with our existing systems and provide a complete communication solution that will bring economic savings to our customers”.
“Norphonic deliver technology we can rely on,” Boesenbaek concludes, “and that means not having to invest in costly call outs in the North Sea”.
