Norphonic Installed in World’s first Gigawatt Offshore Wind Power Plant

"We are very proud of this Norphonic installation and are also excited to be part of the renewable energy solution helping London to meet its renewable energy objectives" Helge Rognstad, Global Sales and Marketing DirectorNorphonic will supply communications equipment to the world’s largest Offshore Renewable Energy Project at the London Array off the coast of Great Britain. This mega-project will be the world’s first gigawatt-class offshore wind power plant.

The offshore turbines will be erected by cooperation between E.ON and Siemens, where the Siemens will supply 175 wind turbines of 3.6 MW each to the London Array owners’ consortium, which includes E.ON, DONG Energy and Masdar Power, a renewable energy project developer. London Array will eventually have 341 turbines installed outside the Thames Estuary.

The London Array wind park output will be sufficient to power around 750,000 British households with environmentally friendly electricity, or about a quarter of the population of metropolitan London.

Two Norphonic Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones will be installed in each wind turbine, allowing easy communication between the offshore wind turbines and the mainland, which is essential for maintenance engineers and offshore technical specialists.
